So, who do we work with?

People and Growth Consulting believes that for businesses to succeed, they need thriving people. When people thrive, so do organisations. Getting the people part of organisations right isn’t always easy, and the work we do is focused on helping leaders tackle their people challenges with clear, actionable plans. But who actually are the businesses and organisations we work with? Well, just as there’s no ‘typical’ workplace, each has their own unique features. So too our clients.

Our clients come from a wide range of different areas and sectors. We work with people in industries such as health, retail, small business, professional services, FMCG and technology. Regardless of sector, size or industry, our work together tends to fall into two different - yet equally rewarding - camps:

Chunky, meaty strategic projects:

These are typically with large corporate clients who have strong HR teams but need some specialist support to bring to life complex projects with far-reaching implications. These projects are all about making great things happen on a broad scale. They know what they want, but they need some external expertise to partner with their amazing in-house teams to deliver tangible results and execute and implement a vision.

Examples of projects are:

  • Change management

  • Restructuring

  • Talent management

  • Organisational design.

A recent project that falls under this umbrella was developing a change management strategy for an organisation-wide digital transformation for a membership organisation. Anyone who has had even a minor IT hiccup knows the stress it can bring. Imagine that uncertainty and stress on scale. The leadership team knew that to make the digital transformation a long term positive experience across the organisation, people would need support. They were looking at changing the way people and teams work with new organisational platforms and systems. They were exploring changes in work flows across teams, cross functional work and collaboration. There would be changes to internal organisational processes, customer engagement processes and channels and customer experience. We were brought in to do an organisation-wide change readiness assessment to create a benchmark and to inform the next iteration of the change plan. After our work together, the organisation was left with detailed analysis about their people’s change readiness and a plan of attack for implementing their change process.

Another example of a project-based approach is working with a small Not For Profit during a time of leadership change with the departure of the Founder and CEO. In this project, we provided leadership and support to staff, we managed risks associated with the turnover and provided Board advice on the leadership transition.

One more example of this project approach is working with a higher education client to understand how their people and teams were working together under a new (to them) operating model implemented a year prior, designed to improve efficiencies in cost and productivity. This involved designing and delivering workshops to address the culture and ways of working across the leadership team, as well as creating change plans for leaders to further embed their desired ways of working.

Filling a HR gap:

The other type of client we work with is SMEs, providing services that we affectionately call ‘Bit-of-everything.’ These clients are smaller organisations, usually past the start up phase, with 40 - 200 staff. They either have a small HR team, or no in-house HR resource, and to put it simply, they’re not quite sure what they need in terms of the ‘people stuff’. They might be having retention problems, the teams might be dysfunctional or there’s a lack of growth. Bottom line: they know their people problems are impacting their company performance and they need specialist, expert support. That’s where we step in as virtual Head of HR, People and Culture to create high-impact, systemic change.

So, this could look like:

  • Setting up HR frameworks for future growth and goals

  • Pinpointing problems and tackling them strategically with a bespoke solution - aka HR troubleshooting

  • Sharing industry best practice to improve culture

  • Implementing change that brings considerable benefits - hello improved retention, productivity and profitability.

Another service we provide here at People and Growth is designing and delivering workshops for organisations and businesses of all sizes. These focus on immediate needs, such as leadership team effectiveness, broader team effectiveness, personal development, DiSC assessments, strengths assessments and effective team dynamics.

But back to who do we work with? While our clients vary in size from 40 people to tens of thousands, what they have in common is being part of disrupted and disruptive organisations that are trying to grow and adapt. They have a genuine desire to improve their people’s experience. They’re forward thinking with a growth mindset. They like a relationship-based approach with a long term focus. They also have values and a culture aligned to ours here at P&G Consulting, which is creating workplaces where people thrive and achieve commercial success. This goal is the crux of our work.

If you share this goal, and need some HR support to bring it to life, please reach out. Julia, our Founder and Lead Consultant, would be happy to talk to you about how we could support you.
